HAD Klondike Derby
The Klondike Derby is a challenging winter camping event in which patrols participate in competitive activity stations, prepare their meals outdoors, and camp in tents! The purpose of this event is to reinforce winter camping skills, scout skills, and the patrol method. Scouts will participate in one of two levels of competition, Novice or Advanced, based on their average rank scores as explained on the patrol registration form. Novice challenges reinforce the basics of scouting skills while Advanced level challenges contain more difficult problem solving and technical skills. All scouts attending the event should be properly prepared and dressed for all-day cold weather activities. The outdoor competition takes place on Saturday during the day, with patrols pulling a sled from station to station with points being awarded based on the patrol’s abilities and teamwork. Grand sled races will will be held Saturday afternoon with the best teams of Advanced and Novice patrols! Saturday night will consist of a campfire program and the distribution of prizes for the highest-scoring patrols in both categories! This event takes place rain or shine and will only be canceled if severe winter weather is being forecast for the area.
